Well I found a subbed video of the Gyo anime see you in an hour everyone I gotta watch this documentary about creepy robofish.

Trip report:

Pretty dang bad, no doubt about it, and yet I was pretty enthralled the whole time. The Gyo manga was already all over the place and the OVA adds on new characters for gratuitous sex scenes and a heroic journalism angle. Like, let me go over a list of all of the horror/disaster tropes this thing goes through in no particular order: zombies, virus epidemics, fanservice, monsters (the walking fish), mad scientists, forbidden military experiments, gratuitous tentacle groping, madmen, evil robots, creepy circuses, spooky ghosts (the gas), heroic journalists, apocalyptic scenarios, mysterious machines that are made through unknown means, oppressive militaries, shark attacks, plane crashes, train crashes, and farts.

It’s hard to hate something like that.

That said, I’m kinda sad the walking fish aspect goes away so soon. The swarms of fish running through the streets is probably the most gripping thing about this story and it kinda goes in a more virus-epidemic direction which doesn’t interest me as much. Falling in a storm drain filled with tiny pointy robot fish is horrifying, but the gas people are just gross. And silly. Kinda wish the stench stayed as revolting and incapacitating as it was in the beginning, too. Later on the smell is everywhere but everyone stops reacting to it because the plot couldn’t keep going otherwise.

I forgot to clarify the things that were added in the OVA so I went through and bolded the appropriate things in the list.

Also the plane crash and train crash occur in like the same 5 minute period. It’s pretty amazing.

Yup.

Read the manga instead, yall.
